Hi Di, nice to meet you yesterday.
Really enjoyed myself at the fete, as usual it was well organised, a lot of fun and well worth travelling over from Swindon for the afternoon. Village fetes seem to become scarcer each year so well done to everyone who helped make the day so enjoyable for those of us that are lucky enough to just 'turn up and enjoy them'. Brightwalton fete is genuinely among the best of the best.....Thank you!
I also took some video which I'd like to share, most of which is fun, but some of which was a fascinating chat with Hugh Whitaker of the South Central Ambulance Service as we talked about 'Community Responders'.
Community responders are people, (just like us), who volunteer and are trained to help save lives in their own communities by responding to certain medical emergencies
while the ambulance is still on it's way.
To my shame I'd never heard about community responders until yesterday, but after learning that community responders save many lives each year, I have resolved to help raise awareness of their vital work and hopefully encourage a few more people to join their ranks.
In communities like Brightwalton, where ambulance stations are as distant as the nearest supermarkets, a local community responder could one day make the difference between life and......well, I'm sure you get the picture!...
...and speaking about pictures, I'll get my video of the fete published here as soon as possible.
